some mighty mighty fine modern kozmigroov here!
If you like FELA or the new TONY ALLEN _Black Voices_
and if you like BLACK JAZZ CHRONICLES
you will most certainly like SOUL ASCENDANTS!
(infact, Tony Allen is a drummer on this release)

_Variations_ is put out by the same label that put out
BLACK JAZZ CHRNOICAL's _Future JuJu_ - Nuphonic
and definitely has a similar sort of vibe.
the _Variations_ is even more influence by FELA
and Afro-Beat. The first track is actually a tribute to FELA.

From the back cover:
"...Brighton based DJ, Nick the Record, and multi-instrumentalist
Tim Hurton (this man can play virtually anything!) have not disappointed
with this compulsive nin track selection. They enlist the services
of Fela's master dummer, Tony Allen, for three cuts and the complex,
spirited, rhythmic pulse of Fela resides comfortably alongside
echose of Afrika Bambaata and Kool & The Gang. Don't get my wrong,
this is not a retro LP, this is a confident late nineties offering
that embraces the technology and allows the music space to breathe..."

highly recommended.
