Trapeze - A soulful treasure from 70s France -- funky fusion at its best, played by drummer Noel McGhie and his legendary Space Spies combo! The group features some sweet electric piano on all the grooves -- really skipping out with a light touch that steps around McGhie's tight drum work nicely -- while reeds and trumpet blow with a tone that's open and exploratory -- never too "out", but reaching for the skies with a real sense of spirit! The tracks are all quite long, and have a quality that's really hard to describe -- easily on a par with the best American indie soul jazz of the time, but with a flavor that's also all their own!
