Deep, dense and completely engaging. It is rare to hear an album that doesn't have a filler track on it, but metamorphosis manages to achieve it. That is a subjective observation though. The complexity and layering of sound and texture are pretty overwellming on first listen, but if you can appreciate Sun ra, AEOC, Don Cherry, Albert Ayler or any of the other free jazz pioneers then this will be like a breath of fresh air when it comes to the current nu-jazz output. in my view this is the best thing to have come out of the area of nu-jazz, if thats what it is, for a long time and it puts many others to shame. please keep travelling that astro plane to saturn freeform, i'll be listening the whole way.

let the "arkestra" in the name be a hint that Sun Ra is in the house on
this one. think Sun Ra or Art Ensemble of Chicago for the downtempo crowd.
very cool stuff.
these guys have been around for awhile and have various singles out
that have appeared on a number of compilations.
this full-length keeps the forward movement made with those recordings.
its a bit more "out" and more jazz based, but still groovey in a
downtempo kinda way. live musicians were recorded and then edited
and arranged during post-production.
top shelf astral nu-jazz indeed!
